Millennium Data Management, Incorporated, is proud
to announce the development and release of ANSI-859, a
standard for performance-based Data Management. MDM has
lead the team of developers for this standard – and its
associated implementation handbook – for four years.
The standard is an industry/government consensus-based
approach to the acquisition, management, access, use,
review, acceptance, archival, and disposal of data. It
incorporates the original intent of data management
with the evolution and migration of the data environment
from one of hardcopy, library management to the digital,
tool-based environment.
ANSI-859 also provides for the identification,
management, and protection of intellectual property and
competitive edge data.
The
sponsorship of this project was provided by the
Department of Defense and is joined by its constituent
services and agencies, in conjunction with a talented
team from prime contractors as Lockheed Martin, General
Dynamics, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Boeing Defense and
Boeing Commercial Aircraft, and Logistics Management
Institute. It has been our privilege to lead this
effort, and to work for the improvement and appreciation
of data as a competitive edge asset.
Our
current project in the development of new policy and
guidance for Data Management is to develop a series of
continuous learning modules for Defense Acquisition
University, to be used in the institutionalization of
new DM throughout the defense community, and in
industry.
ANSI-859 and its handbook are available for purchase
through industry standards vendors and at
www.geia.org. We invite your inquiries and
questions on the content of the standard, and are
appreciative of your comments regarding the value and
use of the document.
